The MPD’s headquarters is located at 302 S. Church St., Murfreesboro, TN 37130 and has additional precincts in the Highland Heights and Franklin housing areas. The Murfreesboro Police Department is composed of four main divisions: the Administrative Services Division, the Criminal Investigations Division, the Operations Division, and the Uniform Division.

Administrative Services is made of three sections. The FTEP (Field Training and Evaluation Program) is a program of on the job training for new hire officers that last for twenty one weeks. The training process includes daily evaluations and thirteen written exams. The Personnel Section handles time accountability, payroll, and personnel files for the approximately 317 employees of the MPD. The Training Section provides and schedules all annual and specialized training for certified officers and civilian staff members necessary for those members to properly comply with city and state certification requirements.

Criminal Investigations handles the investigation of all crimes reported to the MPD and is divided into four sections. The Domestic Violence Special Victims Section handles rape, domestic assault, child sexual abuse, child abuse, child neglect, child pornography, stalking, elder abuse, and referrals from the Department of Children Services. The Gang Unit handles gang related or gang motivated crimes like shootings, drug related crimes, and serious assaults, and works to identify and document gang members within Murfreesboro. The General Investigations Section handles the bulk of investigations not otherwise covered specially by a section. The Vice / Narcotics Section handles the investigation of drug related, prostitution, and gambling crimes.

Operations provides logistical support to the department and is composed of three sections. Communications is a joint communications center run by the MPD and the Murfreesboro Fire Department, handling emergency and non-emergency requests for police and fire services and the coordination of those requests. The Information Desk handles the greeting of visitors to the department and requests for accident reports, police reports, fingerprints for personal use, and video tape copies. The Records Section handles the storage and maintenance of all records and property submitted by officers.

The Uniform Division, consisting of one hundred and sixty three officers, handles all the uniformed services of the department and is divided into two sections. Patrol Services handles the responding of officers to a request for service. Traffic & Special Services handles the enforcement of traffic laws and ordinances and response to reports of accidents.
